A little bit about Sarah.
When I was younger, I thought I’d be the editor of Vogue, so it felt natural to study fashion. I started with a fashion design course at Leicester College, where I found a real love for communications and publication.
I then went on to London College of Fashion to study fashion marketing and promotion, alongside internships with various PR companies and a stint at Vauxhall Fashion Scout covering the shows at London Fashion Week on their website!
After moving back to Leicester, I found there weren’t quite as many opportunities in fashion, so I took an internship with a local media agency before moving into marketing. I joined a men’s underwear company as Marketing Manager, right as online sales were really starting to boom.
Those early roles gave me the chance to get stuck into all sorts of things. I learned how social media could support SEO and PPC, worked alongside agencies and got involved in everything from campaign activity to project managing photoshoots.
Working for smaller, independent companies meant there was lots of responsibility… and nowhere to hide! It really helped me develop my project management skills and taught me to be comfortable figuring things out as I went.
I then joined the Watches of Switzerland Group, where I moved into a much bigger department and team. By the time I left, my role had become a hybrid of three areas: brand marketing, social media and email, and campaign creation. The experience I’d gained in smaller, more hands-on spaces gave me a broad skill set that helped me progress quickly.
At Ketchup, I want to bring together everything I’ve learned about leadership, developing teams and building strategy. I enjoy thinking strategically and then working out how to apply that thinking at different levels and across different industries.
I was drawn to Ketchup because of the warmth of the people. Even just reading about everyone on the website, that genuine culture came across. I was also really drawn to the fact that Ketchup is female-led.
Outside of work, I’m usually kept busy by my two dogs! I love a trip to a garden centre, getting stuck into a good book, and sewing and creating my own clothes. I’ve also got a strong friendship group, and we regularly get together for Sunday lunches and rank the roasts at Leicestershire’s gastropubs. It’s a very serious business.
Sarah’s favourite thing about Ketchup.
“There’s a genuine warmth and care at Ketchup. You can tell that people are really passionate about the work they do and about doing well.”
