A little bit about Kim.
I’ve been in marketing for the better part of a decade, but I’ve been writing pretty much since I could work a pen. I also studied marketing at uni. So, naturally, my first job was in finance. Suffice to say that it wasn’t a great fit, so I spent all my spare time writing scripts and training to become a professional copywriter.
One thing I’ve learned over my career, is that copywriting is a constant exercise in dialling things up or down. Whenever I’m writing for a client, I always have that brand’s persona in my head, and I ask myself “would they actually say that? Would they use those particular words? The outcome of that process can be as concise as the brief itself, and a good copywriter has to be able to judge its quality every step of the way.
Writing copy for Ketchup isn’t anything like my old life, jotting down stories in my notepad in the Georgia grass. But this environment is toning my writer’s muscles, and stress-testing my skills. It’s been a natural evolution, and I’m loving the chance to push myself further and farther.
In my spare time, I’m usually either submerged in the world of my four-year-old boy, or practising guitar whilst singing terribly. Or I might be writing my novel or some poetry, going for a run to blow off some steam, or calmly doing some yoga. It’s fair to say I have too many hobbies and always feel the need to be accomplishing something.
Kim’s favourite thing about Ketchup.
“For me, the best thing about Ketchup is its people, hands down. In a world of stuffy corporate offices, Ketchup is something else entirely. Although a lot is expected of us, we’re able to be ourselves; we can be expressive in ways that let us all breathe. Plus, it’s impossible to be in a bad mood around the Crew. Bring your moodiest friend: it’ll be Crew 1-0 Bad Mood. Every. Single. Time.”
